Synopsis: An alien beacon found by a young American girl, Perpugilliam
('Peri') Brown, and her archaeologist stepfather, Professor Foster, leads her, the
Doctor, Turlough, and a strangely-behaving Kamelion to the planet Sarn. The natives
are sharply divided over their volcano god, which threatens to destroy them all.
The Master has once again taken over Kamelion. Accidentally shrunk by his own Tissue
Compression Eliminator, he needs to bathe in the volcanic numismaton flame, which
will restore his size and extend his life. San turns out to be a political prison
for Trion, Turlough's homeworld, which banished him to Earth. Turlough eventually
risks further punishment by radioing Trion to send a rescue ship to evacuate
Sarn. He then finds his exile has been rescinded and returns to his homeworld
with his newly-found brother, Malkon. Meanwhile, the Master becomes trapped in the
flame, and is apparently vapourised.
