Synopsis:
The Master kidnaps Adric, while the Doctor, Tegan, and Nyssa
escape from the Pharos Project. Weakened by his regeneration, the
Doctor retreats to the Zero Room. The Master sets the Tardis on
course towards Event One, but the Doctor avoids this by jettisoning
portions of the ship, including the Zero Room. Looking for another
place where the Doctor can complete his regeneration, the travellers
find Castrovalva, a citadel of peace and learning, where they meet
Shardovan, its librarian, and the ancient Portreeve, whose strange
tapestry shows scenes from the past. The Doctor soon realises Castrovalva
is not what it seems; they are caught in a recursive occlusion -
a space-time trap. The Portreeve is revelaled to be the Master, holding
Adric prisoner in an energy web behind the tapestry. Castrovalva
is a block transfer computation created by Adric. Shardovan dives into
Adric's web, freeing the boy, but dooming Castrovalva. The Doctor and
his friends escape, leaving the Master trapped in Castrovalva as it vanishes.
Shown 4 January 1982 to 12 January 1982.
