Synopsis:The Doctor takes Tegan to visit her grandfather, Andrew Verney, in the village
of Little Hodcombe. They arrive in the middle of elaborate war games,
recontructng the English Civil War, led by Sir George Hutchinson.
But the games become frighteningly real as Tegan is designated the Queen of May,
a human sacrifice, and Will Chandler, an actual person from 1643, appears.
The Doctor identifies the source of the phenomenon as the Malus, an evil alien
entity who is using psychic projections to feed on the villagers' fears.
Rediscovered dormant in the local church by Verney, the Malus has been
awakened by Sir George's deranged mind. The Doctor eventually finds a way to cut
the Malus off from the villagers' emotions. After a last psychic attack,
and Sir George's death, the Malus destroys itselfand the church.
