Stowing away in the Tardis, Adric from Alzarius became a companion of the Doctor's while the Tardis was in E-Space. Adric, in his early twenties, with a black floppy hairstyle made him look even younger, and a badge he wore proudly for Mathematical Excellence, his mathematical proficiency rivalled that of the Doctor's, and his physical recovery rate was faster than that of humans. Adric was played by Matthew Waterhouse.
Adric was with the Doctor when Tegan and Nyssa joined the crew. Extremely intelligent and
resourceful, he was an asset to the Tardis' crew, even if he felt he wasn't. He tried desperately
to fit in with the two girls, but he always felt he was on the outside.
He bickered
with Tegan often, and with the Doctor less often. He disobeyed Nyssa, viewing her as a peer,
not anyone with authority. As a young man, he ate a lot of food, often being picked on
for his ravenous hunger and insatiable appetite. The Doctor never spent enough time with him
in his opinion, and treated him like a son, correcting and reprimanding him for mistakes
he made. Adric gave his life trying to prevent a freighter from crashing into Earth, 65
million years in the past. After a Cyberman in its death throes blew up the computer console
aboard the freighter, Adric's attempts to decode the logic codes to deactivate the Cybertechnology
controlling the ship were thwarted. His last words were, 'Now I'll never know if I was right.'
